Welcome to Sea Scenes Eastwood Online Gallery Seascapes and more.....
I am inspired by the sea, the sky and the beach near my home in East Sussex. At low tide the wet sand reflects the light and pools of water float Dali-esque. The waves are constantly moving the shingle and sand, revealing rocks and wearing them down, they form dramatic solid shapes against the smooth sand. Man-made constructions, the wooden groynes, march valiantly down to the sea, adding definition to the beach scene. They are gradually changing, eroded by the forces of nature.
My paintings of seascapes often include people; I am interested in our relationship with that environment. For some it is activity (sailing, surfing, sandcastles) for others it is contemplation and relaxation. It is a place where families can come together or individuals spend time alone.
Walking on the beach I notice plastic pollution; food and drink packaging, nets and rope from fishing vessels. I pick it up and either recycle or use it in my art work, such as the environmentally themed woven series.
